Happenings in Expanding from a MEDC 6000 class video project focusing on 2008 graduates, Webster-Louisville has produced and posted video interviews of their Outstanding Graduate Student, Igor Dizdarevic, and Outstanding Faculty Dr. Gary Steedly on MySpace. Prospective students can be referred to them as good testimonials for Webster and, CRC Tammy Burke says, "it gets us out there beyond traditional paid advertisement."

Tammy reports: " The ever-so-popular sold-out Day at the Downs alumni event took place at historic Churchill Downs on June 21st. Webster guests spent the afternoon on Millionaire’s Row drinking mint juleps and losing money, …uh I mean, having a good time." News from Orlando On April 22 Bill Sloot, Webster-Orlando academic advisor/undergraduate coordinator/faculty member, presented “Looking Outward to Learn”, at Seminole Community College. More than 35 Seminole County Public School career tech prep teachers attended the workshop. Bill began the morning session with a “Bridging the Generation and Culture Gap” presentation. He spoke on the role of management in managing a diverse generational and culturally different workforce. The afternoon session brought together a panel of industry representatives including three Webster University faculty members who introduced their respective companies and spoke on the knowledge, skills and abilities needed in today’s workplace. Bob Lucas of Global Performance Strategies spoke on the inter-personal skills needed for success. He emphasized the need for employees to go over and above in today’s workplace. Martin Rosenblum of Lockheed Martin outlined his employer’s need for talent since much of their current expertise is retiring. He described a whole person concept as book learning plus the ability to work with a team. Barbara Seifert, licensed psycho-therapist, Committed to Your Success Company and Career Coach, noted some of the skills needed in today’s workplace: dressing appropriately, honesty, ethical behavior, loyalty, conflict management, independent thinking, and the ability to co-exist with workers of all ages and cultures. Darryl Padgett of Northrop Grumman, spoke of the importance of planting seeds early and the enormous influence teachers have. For the complete story on the workshop, contact Webster-Orlando community relations coordinator Karen Buchan. |
