Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble President Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble is the 11th President of Webster University. Dr. Stroble brings to this position 35 years of diverse experience as an educator and academic leader. Most recently she served as Senior Vice President and Provost and Chief Operating Officer of The University of Akron. Her higher education career has included faculty and administrative assignments at the University of Louisville and Northern Arizona University. She began her career as a teacher at Vandalia Community High School in Vandalia, Ill.
In recognition of Dr. Stroble’s exemplary leadership and strengths, she has been awarded numerous awards throughout her tenure as an administrator. Dr. Stroble earned an AB in history and English from Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. She earned two masters of arts degrees, one in history and one in American and English literature, both from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. She received her doctorate in curriculum studies from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. Dr. Stroble has also completed post-graduate studies at the Harvard Institute for Educational Management. |

Neil J. George Chancellor Dr. George assumed the role of chancellor of Webster University in 2009 after serving as the chief executive officer. During his academic and administrative leadership, the University has grown dramatically, more than doubling its enrollment and network of campuses, increasing international education opportunities and developing numerous onsite corporate programs and partnerships. In addition, the University has advanced the integration of academic technology into the teaching and learning work of the University, and has advanced the development of online programs. During Dr. George’s tenure as an academic administrator of the University, a new mission and vision statement was developed for the institution.
Dr. George serves on the Board of Trustees of the World Affairs Council, St. Louis, and the Webster Groves/Shrewsbury Chamber of Commerce, as well as having served as president of a number of organizations including the National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services, the Missouri Political Science Association, the International Education Consortium of greater St. Louis, and the Council of Independent Colleges Chief Academic Officers Task Force. Karen Luebbert Vice President and Executive Assistant to the President Responsiblities: The Office of Public Affairs, Institutional Research, Special Events, Affirmative Action and legal affairs. She also serves as the University’s liaison with the allied arts agencies located on the Webster Groves campus. Luebbert joined Webster University in 1967 as Director of the Library. She has served in a variety of administrative positions at the University, including Director of the Library for 25 years, Vice President of University Services and Vice President for Finance (Interim). She received her undergraduate degree from Webster University, the master of science in library science from Case Western Reserve University and her doctorate from St. Louis University. She has completed postdoctoral studies at Harvard University's Institute for Education Management. Luebbert is the immediate past chair of Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club and continues to serve on the board. Paul Carney Vice President for Students and Enrollment Management Responsibilities: The Registrar’s office, admissions, financial aid, marketing and student affairs. Carney received a BA in History from Kansas Newman College and an MA in Educational Measurement and Testing from Wichita State University. He also holds a doctorate degree in Educational Research and Evaluation from Florida State University. Carney is active in the Missouri and National Association for College Admission Counseling. He also serves as chairman of the board of McAuley Counseling Services Inc., a Springfield, Mo.-based nonprofit organization that provides accessible and affordable quality mental health services. Prior to joining Webster University in September 2009, served as Vice President for Enrollment Management at Drury University in Springfield, Mo. In addition, Carney served as Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Oklahoma State University and as Associate Director for Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Notre Dame. David A. Garafola Vice President for Finance and Administration Responsibilities: Serves as the chief financial and business officer at Webster University. He directs the functional areas of finance and general accounting, resource planning and budget, endowment administration, human resources, administrative services and facilities planning and management. Garafola joined Webster University in 1998 and has held positions in higher education for several years, including at Towson University and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. He received a bachelor of science in business administration from Salisbury State University and a master of business administration from the University of Baltimore. Garafola is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), an EACUBO representative, served on accreditation visitation for the Middle States Association and is currently an active member participating with the Higher Learning Commission. Lawrence Haffner Vice President for Information Technology Responsibilities: All aspects of technology across the University’s more than 100 domestic and international sites. This includes responsibility for enterprise information systems, networking and technical services and architecture, desktop support, instructional lab support, media center operations, technology help desk and training, IT policy and information security. Haffner joined Webster University seven years ago as its first CIO and has held positions in higher education technology over the past three decades. He has served in a variety of academic and administrative staff positions across seven different institutions, including previous CIO positions at Fairmont State University and McKendree University. Haffner has also taught both sociology and computer science at a number of institutions. A research sociologist by training, Haffner has an associate degree from Lindsey Wilson College, a bachelor of arts from Campbellsville University and a master of arts from Western Kentucky University. Faith D. Maddy Vice President for Development and Alumni Programs Responsibilities: All activities of the development office including alumni programs; annual, major, and planned gifts; corporate, foundation, and government relations and advancement services. Maddy has 25 years of non-profit experience, 17 of them in development. She has worked for the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Washington University, Butler University, and the Center for Plant Conservation. Maddy holds a bachelor of science from Butler University and a master’s degree in college student personnel administration from Indiana University. She is active in the local chapter of the Association for Fundraising Professionals and has served as a member of the Butler University Alumni Board, Kirkwood Theatre Guild and Delta Gamma alumnae association. James Staley Vice President for Academic Affairs Responsibilities: All academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including providing support for the academic deans and the five Schools and Colleges. Additionally, Staley oversees the operations of the extended campus network and manages the diverse services of academic support units, including Emerson Library and the Academic Resource Center. He joined Webster University in 1980 as a professor in the Department of Music, where he taught music history, literature and humanities courses. Staley completed his bachelor’s degree at St. Ambrose College, his master’s degree at the University of Michigan and his doctorate in historical musicology at the Catholic University of America. Staley has been a freelance musician in the St. Louis metropolitan area, and is a well-known lecturer on topics of early music. He has published performance editions of early instrumental music and has given numerous recitals and concerts throughout his career. Staley has presented workshops for the College Board on programs for adult learners, and has lectured on quality assurance initiatives in higher education. Ralph Olliges Faculty Senate President Responsibilities: Ralph H. Olliges is President of the Faculty Senate, member of the Administrative Council, and the Graduate Council. He is Associate Professor of Education at Webster University in Saint Louis and the Educational Technology Coordinator. Dr Olliges possesses over twenty-eight years of teaching experience in the classroom and online. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Master of Arts in Mathematics, Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction with a Computer Emphasis from Saint Louis University. He joined the faculty of Webster in 2001. His area of expertise deals with how to successfully integrate technology in the classroom. He teaches courses on educational technology in the classroom, databases in the classroom, building web sites for teachers, and the use of many different software packages in the classroom. He is a nationally recognized technological educator and researcher in the field of web-based and web-enhanced learning. His recent research program focuses upon web-enhanced and distributed learning in higher education, and in particular technology-based education. Dr. Olliges has published articles in professional journals and has presented on various topics at regional and national conferences. He has numerous publications and presentations with regards to using technology in the classroom and with student learning styles. Dr Olliges is a long-time member of International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). Also, he is a member of the Society of Philosophy and History of Education (SOPHE), American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE).
