Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts Admission

An audition, portfolio or interview is required for admission consideration for Webster's degree programs in the College of Fine Arts.   Students who apply to pursue a major in the College of Fine Arts will be considered for academic admission to the university upon receipt of their admissions application and supporting materials in the Office of Admission. Acceptance into a particular major in the College of Fine Arts will be determined based upon review of the audition, portfolio or interview.  Further details are below.

Art (MA)

Admission to the Department of Art, Design, and Art History as a degree-seeking student is by portfolio review. Students are required to demonstrate advanced preparation through portfolio review, previous coursework, resume or interview. An interview or portfolio review will be conducted by an appointed committee of full-time art faculty consisting of the department chair, the major professor in the student’s potential area of emphasis, and one other faculty member. For more information concerning admission requirements, please click here.

Reviews are held on campus throughout the year, and also give students the opportunity to meet faculty, tour the studios, and observe classes. Students living outside a 200 mile radius and living outside the United States who would find an on-campus review impossible may submit a portfolio by mail or email.Applicants with the intention of pursuing an emphasis in Art History & Criticism should submit a writing sample and may also wish to include a portfolio presentation. We recommend that students apply for academic admission before their portfolio review.
