Student Organizations

The students of DADAH organize three different groups: Webster Art Coalition (WAC), American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), and Art History Society (AHS). These organizations are supported by Webster University and the Student Government Association, as well as the department. In many ways they serve as a central component of department life, by sponsoring events, generating enthusiasm for art and design, and orchestrating camaraderie.

Webster Art Coalition

WACThe Webster Art Coalition (WAC) is a group of students who enjoy promoting the arts. WAC aims to involve more people in the arts by creating a community to increase knowledge with varied arts events including; visiting artists lectures, demos, museum visits, an annual student art show, additional community exhibitions, and school events. Through such events WAC strives to inform, stimulate, and unify those interested in art. All students are invited to join this group and be active participants.

WAC and AIGA host an annual event, Art Prom. Open to the public, this is an end of the school year dance with a silly theme and wild dancing.

American Institute of Graphic Arts

AIGAThe American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) - is the professional association for design, the place design professionals turn to first to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis and research and advance education and ethical practice.

Founded as the American Institute of Graphic Arts in 1914, AIGA is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice and culture of designing. AIGA now represents 22,000 designers through national activities and local programs developed by 62 chapters and 240 student groups.

Webster AIGA is Webster University's very own AIGA student group, made up of graphic design, advertising, fine art, and marketing students. Webster AIGA seeks to bring together all types of visual communicators and together become more involved in the profession and community of graphic design.

AIGA Mission: AIGA, the professional association for design, is committed to furthering excellence in design as a broadly defined discipline, strategic tool for business and cultural force. AIGA is the place design professionals turn to first to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis, research, and advance education and ethical practice. AIGA National: AIGA sets the national agenda for the role of design in its economic, social, political, cultural and creative contexts.

AIGA is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice and culture of designing. Founded as the American Institute of Graphic Arts in 1914 as a small, exclusive club, AIGA now represents more than 16,000 designers through national activities and local programs developed by 55 chapters and more than 150 student groups. AIGA supports the interests of professionals, educators and students who are engaged in the process of designing, regardless of where they are in the arc of their careers. The disciplines represented in the profession range from book and type design through the traditional communication design disciplines to the newer disciplines of interaction design, experience design and motion graphics. In addition, AIGA supports the interests of those involved in designing from other disciplines, professions and business who share designers’ commitment to advancing understanding of the value of design.

Art History Society

The Art History Society (AHS) is a community for Webster University students who are interested in the visual arts and their history. Any Webster University student who shares that interest is welcome and encouraged to attend its events. The group holds periodic meetings to discuss its events and coordinates its members via social media. Events have included visits to St. Louis area art museums, galleries, exhibition openings, movie nights featuring art-history related films, and cafe discussions around recent issues in the art world.

A regular focus of the Art History Society is to expose its members to the various fields of the discipline. To this end, the group has sponsored lectures by professionals for the Department of Art, Design, and Art History’s Friday Artist Lecture Series, and visited professionals at their places of work for tours. These talks are often followed by lunch with the professional so that AHS members have an opportunity to ask questions and network in a more intimate setting. Such fields have included in the past curatorial, conservation, and registrar work.

The Art History Society members also travel to other cities to see important collections of art. Trips have included Kansas City to visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and even Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago to attend the College Art Association annual meeting and visit LA’s various museums and galleries.

Print Club

The purpose of this organization is to increase educational and artistic knowledge of printmaking and promote this art and its allied arts (including paper making, book making, and graphic design) in both practical and creative application. We are looking to develop interest in this specific medium and encourage the interchange of ideas and collaboration among its members and other students across campus.
