DADAH encourages all of its students to take advantage of the many opportunities for international study available at Webster University. Whether you study for a full semester at one of Webster’s many international campuses, or take advantage of of one of the Short Term Study Abroad options offered through the department, the experience of another culture is invaluable, both for making art and for becoming a global citizen in today’s world.
Seeing an artwork in situ can reveal greater insight concerning materiality, location, setting, and viewing relationship, among other information. More broadly, in line with Webster’s focus on global citizenship, study abroad opens students to different cultures and the myriad values, beliefs, insights, and relationships consonant with such exposure, and such understanding can help provide even further insight into artworks under study. Although DADAH Art History and Criticism students can take advantage of any of Webster University’s international campuses and study abroad offerings, DADAH offers experiences specifically related to art history including biennial, alternating, short term study abroad trips to Florence and to Venice.
