Advisory Board: Robert Spencer
Robert Spencer has been associated with Webster University in increasingly responsible
roles since 1973. For 18 years prior to his retirement in 2013, he served as Director
of Webster’s Geneva campus and Director General of the European campuses. From 1991
to 1995, he served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Secretary of
the Board of Trustees at the home campus.
During Bob’s 40-year tenure at Webster, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Daniel Webster Society to promote major giving for the University. He played a key role in establishing justification for the transition of the institution from Webster College to Webster University; and in his Chief Development Officer role, he managed capital funds campaigns to support the expansion and development of the Webster Groves campus including the Sverdrup Center, the University Center, the first expansion of the Loretto-Hilton Center, and the purchase of the Garden Avenue property.
Bob has served on many Boards in both Saint Louis and Geneva. They included the Saint Louis Psychoanalytic Institute, the Edgewood Children’s Center, the World Affairs Council of Saint Louis, and the Alliance Francaise de Saint-Louis. He served as a Board member and President of the American International Club of Geneva and as a Board member of the Association Genevoise des Ecoles Privees. He is currently a member of the Governing Board of the Glion Institute of Higher Education, a top ranked hospitality management school in Switzerland, and is a founder and current President of the Association of American of Universities & Colleges in Switzerland.
