ITAL 1090 Elementary Italian: Level I
A course for beginners with emphasis on oral communication. Reading and writing done for homework and classroom time spent practicing the language, with grammar explanations as needed. One hour of language lab practice per week is required. Grade based on class participation, homework, and final oral and written exam. Attendance is required.


ITAL 1091 Workshop
Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in ITAL 1090. 
This workshop is intended for listening and speaking practice, vocabulary development, grammar review, and cultural contextualization. Students will be exposed to appropriate video and software programs, as well as Internet resources. 


ITAL 1100 Elementary Italian: Level II
Prerequisite: ITAL 1090 or equivalent. 
This course is designed as the continuation of Italian Elementary Level I. Students will complete the basics of grammar and expand their vocabulary beyond daily topics. They will be able to use more complex sentences as well as read and understand them. The course is highly interactive; the primary language spoken in class will be Italian. Attendance is required.


ITAL 1101 Workshop
Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in ITAL 1100. 
This workshop is intended for listening and speaking practice, vocabulary development, grammar review, and cultural contextualization. Students will be exposed to appropriate video and software programs, as well as Internet resources. 


ITAL 2090 Intermediate Italian: Level I
Prerequisite: ITAL 1100 or equivalent. 
This course will enhance the students' ability to understand and speak more complex Italian sentences. In addition it will provide them with one day a week focus on Italian culture through selected movie screening and discussion. Special attention will be paid to honing the students' vocabulary. Attendance is required.


ITAL 2100 Intermediate Italian: Level II
Prerequiste: ITAL 2090 or equivalent. This course is designed to perfect the students' comprehension and use of the language, through more in depth grammar review and conversation on selected topics. Newspaper and magazine articles as well as short novels will be read and discussed in class to help the student increase vocabulary and immerse in the culture. There will be a brief review of artistic historic and literary facts relevant to the Italian culture. Two movies will also be viewed and discussed in class.
