ILC 2150 Topics in Culture(s): Russia: Culture in War and Peace
The course offers an overview of Russia's unique history, literature, art, and music from the 9th century to the 20th century. We will discuss the priceless legacies of Pushkin and Gogol, Glinka and Tchaikovsky, Repin and Serov, among others. The course will be conducted in English. ILC 2150 Topics in Culture(s): Russian Cinema: 1917 - Present
In this course we will view and analyze films that were made during the era of Soviet communism and in Russia's post-communist phase. We shall look at film as an instrument of art, propaganda, and subversion during the Soviet period, screening both classic works and lesser-known movies by Soviet directors. We will also examine films that were made before and after the Soviet Union's collapse to see what they suggest to us about new Russia. An International Studies Certificate Course. ILC 1090 Elementary Language: Level I: Russian
Learn about the culture of Russian people as you study one of the major languages of the world. In this course students will learn the basics of Russian: speaking, writing, listening comprehension, and reading. We will stress oral communication in a number of situations such as: making someone's acquaintance, getting information from someone on the street, making friends, and talking about your preferences in personalities, life styles and cultural events.
