Biography

Prior to arriving at Webster University in January 2014, Robert P. Barnidge, Jr., PhD, held positions at OP Jindal Global University in India and the University of Reading. He has been a visiting lecturer at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, Uppsala University, Koç University, and The Hague University and has been awarded academic fellowships from Brandeis University, the Society of Legal Scholars, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa. Dr. Barnidge is the author of two monographs, Self-Determination, Statehood, and the Law of Negotiation: The Case of Palestine (Hart 2016) and Non-State Actors and Terrorism: Applying the Law of State Responsibility and the Due Diligence Principle (Asser 2008), and the editor of the volume The Liberal Way of War: Legal Perspectives (Ashgate 2013).  In addition to his academic publications, he has published expert opinion pieces in Al Jazeera, JURIST, The Hindu, Wall Street Journal, Jerusalem Post, Chicago Tribune, Politico, Jyllands-Posten, and Washington Times and has been interviewed by CTV (Toronto), BBC Radio (Berkshire and London), Voice of Russia (Washington, DC, and London), and Dawn News (Islamabad). He sits on the Legal Advisory Board of NGO Monitor, the International Advisory Board of the Banaras Law Journal and the National University of Study and Research in Law Ranchi Journal of Law and Policy, and the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Middle East and Africa.  He has been an adjunct fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and acted as a consultant for the United States Department of Defense. Dr. Barnidge is a licensed attorney in Missouri and an affiliated professor at the University of Haifa.
