Biography

I currently hold a Ph.D. in Counselor Education, which I received at the University of South Carolina CACREP accredited program in 2012. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of South Carolina, as well as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Supervisor. My current research is in the area of multicultural family therapy, as during my doctoral program I explored racial and social class differences of counseling family and family therapist, in regards to working alliance. Currently, I am practicing as a marriage and family therapist in a private practice setting.

Most recently I have been published as a contributor to the The SAGE Encyclopedia of Marriage, Family, and Couples Counseling, which will be published this year. I have contributed three submissions for this Encyclopedia, which includes Supervision, Approved Supervisor in MFT, Positive and Negative Feedback, and Attachment and Romantic Love.

My previous scholarly work focused on social class from the perspective of a marriage and family therapist. I have written a chapter entitled "Social Class and the Family Structure/Family Counseling" in the textbook entitled Social Class and the Helping Professions (Routledge Press, 2012). Other research interests that I have are in the areas of marriage and family therapy and the impact of internet infidelity, which is an area I have found often with couples in my private practice. As part of my practice, I am supervising new marriage and family interns, who are post-graduation but at the pre-licensure stage. I would like to evaluate the efficacy of supervision techniques, from the perspective of new interns as well as the perspective of clients counseled by these interns. My ultimate goal is to focus on the creation of the most conducive environment for individuals, couples, and families to receive therapy.

I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and I have been privately supervising newly graduated students in an individual and group setting. I am committed to the development of licensed professionals in our field, which can only be accomplished with the active involvement of practicing supervisors.\
