David Porras Named New Walker School Business Chair
Faculty of the Business department in the Walker School of Business and Technology have elected Dr. David Porras, associate professor of Finance and asset pricing expert, as the next department chair. Porras will begin leading the business department June 1, 2013. Porras says that as chair of the department he looks forward to the curriculum development that is taking place.
"Many of our programs are going through revisions so that we can produce better students; implementing up-to-date teaching methods, providing effective communications skills and encouraging students to gain international exposure within Webster's network," Porras says.
"David Porras has played a critical role in the Walker school for a long time in a quiet, yet effective way. This new opportunity enables Porras to do what he has done before, but now up front and visible. I look forward to working with him as we seek to implement the strategic plan of the Walker school," said Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande, dean of the Walker School.
Dr. David Porras has a B.S.B.A. and M.B.A. from Washington University and Ph.D. Finance/Economics from Saint Louis University. Porras' areas of teaching include advanced investments/derivatives and his area of research is investments. He has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics and the International Journal of Diversity in Organizations, Communities and Nations.
