Application Process

Complete application form, including:


Past leadership experience 

Prior Employment

Experience with making presentations or public speaking

Plans for study abroad (or prior experience)

Signed understanding of what is included and expected

Essay on why applicant should be chosen, how applicant will use knowledge and skills

Applicants must submit a signed recommendation from one faculty or professional staff member:

Recommendation Letter structured to include knowledge of:

  • Presentation/public speaking skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Level of professionalism
  • Other relevant information

Applicants must submit a signed recommendation from one other student, such as a peer student leader that the applicant has worked with in an organization where he/she held a position of leadership,or a peer who has witnessed firsthand the applicant's presentation/public speaking skills.

The selection committee, including input from student life staff from each campus, will review application materials and evaluate the applicants based on the application materials and the qualifications.

Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA
• Sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student status
• Minimum of one semester (or 2 terms) completed at Webster prior to Global Student Leadership Summit
• Must spend at least two semesters, or four terms, (not including summer) at the applicant's home campus within 18 months     following the GSLS.
• Good standing (not on probation)
• Active involvement on campus
• Potential to contribute to student life after the summit
• Presentation, or public speaking, skills
• Must agree to actively participate in the 8-week online, non-credit class
• Extra consideration if studying abroad in WG for SP1 or SP2 in 2015

Timing                                                                                                                                                                                August-September 2014: Recruitment materials shared broadly at each campus
September-October 2014: Information sessions held on each campus
October 31, 2014: Applications due in St. Louis
October 31-November 13, 2014: Applications reviewed by selection committee
November 14, 2014: Selections finalized
November 17, 2014: Applicants informed (and alternates identified)
December 8, 2014: Selected participants must confirm participation
January 12 – March 6, 2015: Selected participants participate in non-credit course on Canvas
March 10-14, 2015: Summit takes place on main campus in Webster Groves
