ZANE FORSHEE, FORMER CMS STUDENT
AND WEBSTER ALUM,
AWARDED A FULBRIGHT TO SPAIN
Zane Forshee, a former student of the Community Music School of Webster University and a 1998 graduate of Webster University with a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance, has been awarded a Fulbright to Spain for 2009-2010. John McClellan, Forshee’s instructor throughout his years at both CMS and Webster, describes him as “the kind of student one lives for!”
Forshee’s project as a Fulbright scholar is to study, perform, and record works written for the guitar by four of the most influential Spanish composers of the 20th century: Joaquín Turina, Federico Moreno Torroba, Joaquín Rodrigo and Vicente Ascencio.
In order to achieve this goal, he will be guided by Ignacio Rodes, professor of guitar at the Oscar Esplá Conservatorio in Alicante, Spain. Professor Rodes is uniquely qualified to be Forshee's guide as he has worked with Vicente Ascencio as well as guitarist José Tomás. Tomás is considered one of the most influential Spanish guitar pedagogues of the 20th century. He studied under Regino Sainz de la Maza, Alirio Diaz, and Andrés Segovia, guitarists who commissioned, edited and premiered the works Forshee intends to study.
