Audition Requirements |
All major scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats (no minor scales), 2 octaves An unaccompanied solo of the student’s choice that best demonstrates his/her ability Excerpts assigned by the Community Music School. Sight reading in rhythms of half, quarter, and eighth notes may be requested For first violin placement: 1st and 3rd positions required; for cello placement, 1st and 4th positions required. Must show good left and right hand playing positions. |

This intermediate-level string ensemble emphasizes music reading skills, understanding of ensemble playing technique, and experience playing repertoire more advanced than String Ensemble repertoire. Members must have a thorough and accurate knowledge of first position and the ability to read music.
The median playing level is Suzuki Violin Book 4 and Suzuki Cello Book 3. Seating is on a rotating basis. The String Orchestra is strong preparation for the Young People’s Orchestras.
