What do students think of the CMS Band Camp? “Great camp, altogether amazing.” “This year was as great as ever!” “This is my favorite camp. I really like my sectional teacher.” “Love it.” Under the direction of Webster University’s James A. Martin and Rick Dammers of Rowan University, you will participate in ensembles, master classes and special events while learning important practice and audition preparation techniques. Students work with specialists on their instruments, try the latest in computer and multimedia technology to improve your playing, and interact with professional musicians from the St. Louis area.
Two band levels are offered, pending enrollment. Students must have participated in a school band program or studied privately at least one year. Placement auditions will be held to determine performance level on Saturday, May 19 OR Monday, May 21, 2012.

Requirements: two years of participation in a school band program or at least one full year of private instruction. A post-registration skill assessment by student’s band director or private teacher will be required for placement in trio/quartet.
Join us for the inaugural CMS Low Brass Week! Our focus is to celebrate the sounds of outstanding Low Brass artistry and explore the finer points of acquiring these skills, both musically and technically:
• Establishing an effective, efficient warm-up
• Chamber music (each student will be placed in a trio/quartet according to experience level; there will be a placement for more advanced players as well as those with less experience.)
• Daily low brass choir
• Solo playing in a master class setting
• Audition and recital preparation
• Introduction to improvisation fundamentals.
The seminar is hosted by James A. Martin, faculty member at Webster University, former bass trombonist of the Buddy Rich Band, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale, and active free-lance musician. Joining him is Mark Kellogg, Associate Professor of Trombone, Euphonium, and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music and Principal Trombonist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
