Steps to Graduation

1. Submit a Petition to Graduate

All students completing all degree requirements in May 2020 must fill out a Petition to Graduate.

Petitions are DUE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2020.

Petition to Graduate Forms

Undergraduate and Graduate Petitions:

Petitions will be routed to the correct staff member once form is completed and submitted. NOTE: An e-mail confirming receipt of the petition will be sent upon submission.

2. Clear Business Office Accounts

Students who have completed all of their academic requirements to graduate must clear their Student Business Office account balance prior to diploma and transcript release. Credit card payments are subject to a 2.75% convenience fee. Check payments have a holding period of ten days before release of transcripts. For more information, call the Business Office at 1-800-981-9803.

3. Complete RSVP Form

Complete the RSVP form only if you are participating in the St. Louis Commencement ceremonies.

For Extended Campus Graduates
Notify your campus director by February 17, 2020 to submit your name on the Commencement Participation Form if you intend to participate in the St. Louis Commencement ceremony.

Fully Online Graduates
Notify the Online Learning Center at studyonline@webster.edu or (866) 622-0888 if you plan to participate in the St. Louis ceremony.

Graduates/Guests With Disabilities
Indicate your needs on the RSVP form. If you have questions regarding special accommodations (due to a disability) needed for the commencement ceremonies, contact Cindy Yamnitz at 314-246-4245.

*It is recommended that individuals requiring wheelchair assistance bring their own wheelchair. Please note the Muny property is accessible but, individuals must be able to negotiate an incline for seating for the main Muny stage.

 

4. Purchase Your Cap and Gown

How to Wear Your Academic Regalia [ Video ]

If you are located in the St. Louis area and participating in the St. Louis Commencement:

St. Louis area graduates may purchase their caps and gowns at the University Bookstore, 554 Garden Avenue, Webster Groves, Missouri during the Grad Salute Days. Join in the celebration. Enter to win prizes and don't miss special graduation pricing on Jostens class rings. Take care of all your graduation needs on these days.

Ring Sale/Announcement Days on Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday March 4, 2020 from 10 am–5 pm.

Grad Salute Days
Wednesday, March 18: 10 am–5 pm
Thursday, March 19: 10 am–5 pm
Friday, March 20: 10 am–4 pm

If you cannot attend the Grad Salute, caps and gowns will be available during regular business hours at the University Bookstore until May 8, however sizes and availability may be limited.

Students who are interested in carrying the flag of their home country during our Commencement ceremony are asked to complete a brief application here.

If you are located outside of the St. Louis area and participating in the St. Louis Commencement or you are walking in graduation ceremonies at an extended campus go to:

http://college.jostens.com/jostens/?affiliateId=1059767 and follow the instructions on the website to order a cap & gown and announcements for the ceremony in which you are participating.

5. Refer to This Website

6. Distribute Copies of the Map of Your Commencement Ceremony

Distribute copies of the MAP OF YOUR COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY to friends and family with your Commencement announcements. The map shows your check-in area, and the location of your individual School/College ceremony. These maps contain all the information you and your guests will need to navigate your way through Commencement day.

7. Celebrate!

Celebrate the completion of your Webster University degree (and the previous 6 steps) at the 101st Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2020.

    Webster University Commencement 2020

    The program for the 101st annual commencement ceremony in St. Louis, USA, where Webster University was founded in 1915, includes descriptions of ceremonial traditions as well as the names of graduates who would have attended the St. Louis ceremony. However, the names of all graduates worldwide* scrolled on the screen as part of the virtual ceremony held May 9.

    *Those who graduated between Aug ‘19 - March ‘20, and May ‘20 grads who submitted their petition to graduate prior to April 9, 2020 and who were approved by their academic department or academic affairs.

    Virtual Ceremony - Saturday, May 9, 2020

    Webster University held its first-ever virtual Commencement Ceremony on May 9, 2020, the same day our traditional main ceremony was originally scheduled for at The Muny in St. Louis before the COVID-19 pandemic prevented large gatherings. Watched by thousands around the world, this event featured many elements of the traditional main ceremony. Hear commencement addresses from commencement speaker Vlad Ivkovic, Chair of the Board Rob Reeg, Chancellor Beth Stroble, President Julian Schuster and greetings from the academic deans, and see the names of more than 4,700 graduates worldwide scroll across the screen.

    Congratulations to our 2020 graduates -- you persevered amid extraordinary circumstances!
