Submission Rules and Parameters

By submitting an entry, contestants agree that, should their submission be selected as the finalists, that submission becomes the intellectual property of Webster University, in accordance with the terms and conditions indicated on the intellectual property release form.

Finalists also agree to minor modifications, under the consultation of the 100th Commencement Committee, to ensure the new seal fits the thematic purpose and practical applications of the seal (see submission parameters below).

The 100th Commencement Committee seeks a seal design that reflects Webster’s storied history, mission and values while also looking toward the future. It should evoke strength, durability and the timeless value of high-quality education. It should be inclusive – reflecting Webster’s global constituency, diversity, locations and learning modalities.

While submissions may build off or take inspiration from previous Webster seals (see images below), they are not restricted to updates or modifications based on those designs.

  • The seal must be created with vector graphics editing software such as Adobe Illustrator. The winner must be able to provide a high-resolution vector file of the seal to Webster University.
  • Please submit 3 different color versions of your seal design:
    - 1-color version (In black)
    - 1-color version (Reversed out, white on a black background)
    - 2-color version (using Webster University’s school colors: Pantone 280C and Pantone 136C)
  • The seal must be adaptable to both electronic and print media, as well as scalable to reproduce on both large and small surfaces. The design must be legible at a size of at least 1 inch in height. Keep in mind that it is applied in foil on the Webster University diploma.
  • When submitting your file, convert all fonts to outlines. Make sure you own the licenses for any fonts that you use.
  • Any words must be in English. The seal design must include “WEBSTER UNIVERSITY” and “1915” in some capacity.
  • Seals cannot contain copyrighted images. Seals must have been created and edited by the contestant. Seals may not include images or licensed images that have been previously published.
  • Webster University reserves the right to modify the winning logo to better fit the purposes of the seals and its use.
  • All entries will become the property of Webster University. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees that any and all intellectual property rights in the logo design are deemed assigned to Webster University.
  • Please submit your seal design as an 8.5x11 PDF.
