Sci-Fi Media Production Summer Camp
Register now for science fiction media production summer camp at Webster University’s School of Communications
Science fiction is the one of the most popular genres of film and television in the world right now, and we want to take you deep inside that world. Not as fans, but as actual makers. We want to take you on a journey deep inside the world of media production and teach you the secrets of film, video, animation, and scriptwriting with our award-winning faculty at the helm. So, strap in and start the countdown to a fun, hands-on learning adventure!
Have you ever wondered how an idea becomes a movie? In this camp we will examine basic story structure, the conventions of the sci-fi genre, and explore how to take a concept and turn it into a producible script.
Do you love the classic animated creatures from the glory days of stop-motion animation? Have you heard of animators like Ray Harryhausen and want to try your hand at making a big space monster or mythological creature come to life? In this section, you will learn to make, photograph, and edit together a creature from the depths of your own imagination!
Film and Video Production
It will literally be lights, cameras, and action, as we come together as a class to make our own short sci-fi feature, complete with spaceships, blasters, and creatures. Learn how to produce, light, shoot, edit, add effects and music, and export.
Each student will get a DVD of the finished film, and there will be a free screening of it on Tuesday, July 1 at 7 p.m. in the Winifred Moore auditorium. The screening will be open to the public. Students will also receive a copy of their script, and a t-shirt to commemorate the experience.
Join us for this otherworldly experience!
