Corrigan Wins 2019 Missouri Press Foundation Awards

ST. LOUIS (October 3, 2019) – Professor Don Corrigan, faculty member in the Communicatons and Journalism Department of the School of Communications, was recognized for his reporting at the 153rd Missouri Press Association Convention in Kansas City on September 28.

DMatthew Barba of MPA presenting award to Don Corrigan 2019Corrigan won two first place awards and an honorable mention in the weekly newspaper category "for outstanding performance in the field of journalism" in the MPA's annual excellence in journalism competition, also known as the 2019 Missouri Press Foundation Better Newspaper Contest.

He won a first place award in Outdoor Writing for his reporting on seniors who climb mountains in the Rockies and the Sierras with an article entitled, "Cova the Climber."

He won another first place award in the Humorous Columns category for reporting on the controversy over labeling "fake meat" as well as the many solutions to the problem of invasive species of carp populating rivers in Illinois and Missouri.

Corrigan won an honorable mention for his Valentine's Day article, "Love Stories from Old St. Louis," in the MPA's writing category, Best Stories About History.

In addition to teaching in the School of Communications, Corrigan serves as editor and co-publisher of three newspapers in the St. Louis area. His press awards were for articles appearing in the Webster-Kirkwood Times, which also received several photojournalism awards at the Kansas City convention.
