Communications: Student Honors
School of Communications Department Honors
Criteria for selection for individual department award departmental honors are determined by the individual department.
In the Communications and Journalism Department, full-time faculty and academic directors at the university's international locations nominate students for department honors to recognize outstanding work in the major.
Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Department honors are automatically bestowed upon those who earn the university's academic honors but are limited to 15 percent of any graduating class.
In the Electronic and Photographic Media Department, program facilitators consult with full-time faculty to select the students who will receive department honors within their major.
While cumulative GPA is a factor, the department also considers service to the department and expectations that a student will succeed in their professional work after graduation. Department honors are not automatic for those who receive the university's academic honors and are limited to 15 percent of any graduating class.
