APS Scholarships Awarded to CMS Students

November 1, 2018

The Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University is proud to celebrate the selection of recipients of the first Artist Presentation Society (APS) Competition established for students of the CMS.

Aaron Zoll (17), percussion (Elstner) and Ilya Rice (13), piano (Ilyashov) were selected to present a joint concert and each received a cash award of $800. Nita Isom (17), clarinet (Myler) received an Honorable Mention.

"This award from the Artist Presentation Society opens wonderful opportunities for our talented students to play for audiences and the $800 prize can help to pay for their lessons, traveling to other competitions and more" says Zena Ilyashov, private instructor for award-winner Ilya Rice.

The first level of auditions was conducted within the CMS Artistic Merit Scholarship process to ensure that CMS students who auditioned for the APS award were qualified by virtue of advanced repertoire and ability.  A total of 10 students were recommended to advance to the APS auditions on October 21st and APS board members served as judges for the final selection.

Paula Bernhardt, President of the Artist Presentation Society, said “(APS has) a long history of contribution to the St. Louis music community, and we believe this (program) will help to continue that exceptional tradition. It is so exciting to hear the incredibly talented young people of CMS, and we are delighted to offer these auditions.”

“We are grateful to the Artist Presentation Society for initiating this distinctive program to support outstanding young musicians.  I congratulate each of the 10 auditioning musicians for their dedication, preparation and artistry" says Carol Commerford, Director of the Community Music School.

The concert featuring Aaron Zoll and Ilya Rice will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Michael & St. George on Wydown Blvd. in Clayton.
