CMS Preparatory Program Fall Concert November 24th

Prep Fall concert imageYou're invited!  The Preparatory Program (Prep) of the Community Music School of Webster University will perform their Fall Concert on Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m. in the CMS Concert Hall.  Thirty-five students grouped into eight chamber ensembles will perform works from Schubert, Borodin, Dvořák, Beethoven, Berwald, Brahms, Bartók and Ginastera.  Vera Parkin, artistic coordinator of the program, says Prep encourages students to play great standards and also seek out unknown gems.  This Fall these young musicians will play Franz Berwald’s Quartet in Eb Major for Piano and Winds from 1819 – a piece widely recognized as being ahead of its time as well as the first movement Allegro violento ed agitato from Alberto Ginastera’s String Quartet No. 1, Op. 20 which features powerful, driving, Latin rhythms. 

The complete repertoire includes:

  • Schubert Piano Quintet in A "The Trout," IV
  • Beethoven String Quintet in C "The Storm," I
  • Borodin String Quartet No. 1 in A, I
  • Bartok String Quartet No. 4, V
  • Berwald Quartet in Eb for Piano and Winds, I
  • Dvorak String Sextet in A, I
  • Brahms Horn Trio, I
  • Ginastera String Quartet No. 1, I

The Preparatory Program Fall Concert is free and open to the public.  The CMS Center is located on the campus of Webster University at 535 Garden Avenue in Webster Groves.  Free parking is available in the Garden Plaza Parking Garage on Garden Avenue.
