CMS Welcomes New Faculty Member - Mirta Donnelley

Dr. Mirta Donnelley was born in the country of Brazil and started her music and piano lessons at the age of nine.  As she progressed in her studies she went to great lengths to find a good piano teacher. During her high school years, she traveled three hours by bus (one way), in order to continue her studies! After earning a degree in Piano Performance in her native country of Brazil, she was awarded a scholarship to continue her studies in the United States. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. where she studied Music Education.  Dr. Donnelley says, "I wanted to reach out to children around me so that they would not have to make the sacrifices I had to make in order to learn how to play the piano."  After receiving her Masters in Music Education she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in music.While studying at the University of Illinois Dr. Donnelley met her husband, Rev. Dr. Lowell Donnelley.  They traveled for his career living in Stillwater, OK; Kona, HI; and Altamont, IL. In every location, Dr. Donnelley worked as a piano teacher, general music teacher, and served as a church music director.  They have two grown children - Lucas, who works as Managing  Director at Dreampact Ventures, and Megan who is a Social Worker.  

Dr. Donelley's hobbies include reading, sewing, and traveling. She has traveled to Europe, several countries in South America, and more recently, Canada.
