The Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University will accept submissions for their Young Composer's Competition through Friday, October 19, 2018. Interested composers should visit http://www.webster.edu/community-music-school/programs/young-composers-competition.html for more information.

Since 2004, the Young Composers Competition (YCC) sponsored by Arden and Harry Fisher has recognized and encouraged the efforts of young composers between the ages of 12 and 21. This program, unique to the St. Louis region, is an open competition which has received submissions nationally and internationally.

A panel of judges comprised of area published composer(s) review each submission and evaluate works based on melody, harmony, rhythm, style, form, instrumentation, labeling, notation, and musicality. Each submission receives feedback from the panel of judges.

Winners of the Young Composers Competition will be announced no later than January 9th and are invited to attend the Emerging Composers Concert on March 23, 2019 to hear their works performed by professional musicians from the St. Louis region. Winners receive a professional concert recording of their work for their portfolio and a written critique and personal conference with guest composer Niloufar Nourbakhsh. One of Ms. Nourbakhsh's works will also be performed at the Emerging Composers Concert.

Prior to the public performance CMS presents two public workshops: a session with guest composer Niloufar Nourbakshsh and "Habits of the Highly Effective Composer" presented by award-winning Webster University faculty member Dr. David Werfelmann.

Entries are currently being accepted online and by mail. Interested composers should visit http://www.webster.edu/community-music-school/programs/young-composers-competition.html for more information.
