Jazz Lab Ensemble
COMMUNITY MUSIC SCHOOL
All melodic instruments are welcome to participate in the Community Music School's
Jazz Lab Ensemble performing a variety of jazz styles from the 1930's to the present.
The ensemble will develop students' skills in improvisation, ensemble interaction,
and personal musicianship. A second jazz ensemble may be added if auditions and enrollment warrant. Prior experience
in jazz is helpful but not mandatory. Audition Applications are accepted twice per
academic year.

Instruments: Brass, Woodwind, and String instruments plus a rhythm section of Guitar, Vibraphone,
Drum Set, Latin Percussion, and Bass (electric or acoustic)
Ages: Students in grades 8-12
Weekly rehearsals: Tuesdays from 4:15-6:15 p.m.
Robert Waggoner, conductor
B.M.E., St. Louis Institute of Music; attended University of North Texas; graduate
work, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville; studied bass with Henry Lowe; faculty member
from 1964-1978 in the Parkway School District; faculty member, Meramec Community College
from 1975-2005, current faculty member, Webster University, Jim Widner Summer Jazz
Camps, and Saint Louis University High Jazz Camp; jazz clinician, adjudicator, and
conductor throughout the Midwest; awards include St. Louis Suburban Music Certificate
of Merit, Hall of Fame, MBA Outstanding Jazz Educator, and MOIAJE Jess Cole Jazz Educator
Award; director, Genesis Jazz Project; president/owner of St. Ann Music Publications.
