Summer Composition Intensive
COMMUNITY MUSIC SCHOOL
Got music in your head but don’t know how to get it on paper? Do you want to hear
how your Finale score sounds when performed by live musicians? The Summer Composition
Intensive is just for you! By the end of two weeks, you will have an arsenal of new
skills and resources, a performance of what you’ve written by professional musicians,
and new friends!
Unique features of the CMS Intensive include opportunities to meet and work with St.
Louis area composers and musicians. Advanced students will utilize the Webster University
Department of Music’s computer lab. Students will work in groups according to experience
level (from those needing the basics of notation, transposition, and scoring, to students
with prior composing experience). All participants must be able to read music and
play an instrument or sing. Students of all levels are challenged to write a short
piece for piano trio during the Intensive to be performed and recorded by musicians
from Chamber Project St. Louis.
