Telephone Scams

Although we think that most of the University is aware of telephone scams; we want to remind you that you should never, ever forward any person to an outside line, (number nine on your telephone).  This of course allows the individual to make and charge long distance calls to you. Just hang up.  Notify Telecommunications office (968-7461) if you have any questions.

..Do Not attempt to use it, as this may short the circuits and cause serious damage.
..Call x7461 for help.

NO DIAL TONE.  If you cannot get a dial tone, and none of the lights are lit:
..Make sure the plugs connecting the handset to the phone are firmly in place.
..Check to see if the wall cord is firmly plugged in.
..If all plugs are secure, then unplug the telephone from the wall, wait about 10 seconds, and then plug the phone back in.  This should reset the phone causing all the lights to flash briefly.  DO NOT leave the phone unplugged for more than 30 seconds or an alarm will register on your system.
..Make sure the wall cord is undamaged.
