The following tips will help you maintain a higher level of security on Webster-owned computers connected to the Internet:
If you suspect you have a virus on your computer, call the Help Desk right away (X5995).
If you suspect you have received a virus through your e-mail, do not open it. Call the Help Desk right away (X5995).
Do not open attachments from anyone you don't know.
Do not open or download programs to your computer from "questionable" (non-vendor) sites.
Use "good" passwords, not ones easily guessed or hacked (use a combination of numbers, letters, and other characters) and keep it secret.
Do not give out your passwords via email or phone to anyone claiming to be a company representative.
Back up your data often on reliable removeable media or a network drive so that if your computer is affected by a virus or crashes, it can be restored.
Never give out financial information such as bank account numbers or credit card numbers via e-mail.
When shopping on the Internet, deal only with Web sites which are supported by SSL technology (a small lock or key will show in the bottom of your browser window if the site is SSL encrypted).
