Announcing the Year of International Human Rights 2009-10: The Right to Food and Water
The College of Arts & Sciences is dedicating the 2009-10 academic year to human rights issues associated with food and water. Visit the YIHR website to learn more about this special year and to stay abreast of upcoming events and activities.

For more information on international human rights, see the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration’s Article 25.1 states that “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services…”

An alumna who wrote a book about a martyred Afghan leader… another who was instrumental in Italy’s decision to declare an annual day to remember a World War II massacre…thoughts on human rights from a Des Lee Professor who experienced South African apartheid…a salute to three recently retired A&S faculty members. Plays by Michael Erickson Performed, Recognized
Plays by Michael Erickson, associate professor of playwriting and drama in the English Department, have recently been recognized and performed.
Alien Hand Syndrome won the 2009 MadLab national new play contest last spring and was performed in Columbus, Ohio. The play also won the Moving Arts contest and currently is being produced in Los Angeles. See MadLab’s YouTube trailer.
Apologies from the Lower Decks, “a dance play telling the story of five cousins taking an outer and inner journey to their distant home,” is being revived this month at the San Diego Repertory Theatre by Malashock Dance.
Robin Hood (a musical) was toured by the Imaginary Theatre Co. last winter and spring.
