Study Abroad

Announcing the Year of International Human Rights 2009-10: The Right to Food and Water
The College of Arts & Sciences is dedicating the 2009-10 academic year to human rights issues associated with food and water. Visit the YIHR website to learn more about this special year and to stay abreast of upcoming events and activities.

For more information on international human rights, see the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration’s Article 25.1 states that “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services…”

Prof. David Clewell Reads from Whitman’s “Song of Myself
David Clewell, Professor of English, Director of the Creative Writing Program, and a published poet, reads from Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself.”  The occasion was Webster’s 2008 Global Ecology Conference.

Webster Vienna Sponsors Nuclear Non-Proliferation Seminar
Vienna’s Alumni Association and Department of International Relations were co-sponsors of this fall seminar, which was held at the Japanese Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Harry Cargas Named to Athletic Hall of Fame
Dr. Harry James Cargas, a professor emeritus and English Department faculty member from 1970-1998, has been named posthumously as a member of the inaugural class of the Webster University Athletic Hall of Fame. Cargas is the father of Sarita Cargas, associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The College presents the Harry James Cargas Lecture each year in his honor.

Global M.A. Students Visit OPEC
One of the three cohorts in this year’s Global M.A. in International Relations class recently visited the OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) Secretariat in Vienna as part of its Professional Seminar course at Webster’s Vienna campus. (See photo.) The Global MA in IR program takes students on a year-long study tour that includes Webster’s four European campuses–London, Leiden, Geneva, and Vienna–and either Beijing or Bangkok–the student’s choice.
