Program Curriculum and Major Requirements

 

         The 36 credit hours required for the master of arts (M.A.) degree must include the following courses for a major in international relations:

INTL 5000  Introduction to International Relations
INTL 5100  Research Methods and Perspectives
INTL 6000  International Relations: Theory and Practice or INTL 6250 Thesis

Two courses (6 credit hours) from the Comparative Politics Cluster
Four courses (12 credit hours) from the International Politics Cluster
Three courses (9 credit hours) from International Relations Elective Cluster

      Not all of the courses listed above will be available to students at all locations.

      If the requisite course is waived, the student must choose an elective course from this major.

        *Advanced Research Methods may be substituted for a course in the Comparative or in the International Cluster.

          The required courses and electives listed in this core may be taken as directed studies, subject to the conditions stated in the Directed Studies section under Academic Policies and Procedures.

     Dual Majors - International Relations:
Students who choose International Relations as part of dual majors are required to take 27 core credits (9 courses) from the International Relations curriculum.

     Sequential Master's Degree - International Relations:
Students with a graduate degree who choose to earn a sequential master's degree in International Relations are required to take 27 core credits (9 courses) from the International Relations curriculum.
