Students Receive Study Abroad Grants
A&S sophomores Brijhette Farmer and Kathryn Mahl will spend the Spring ‘09 semester at Webster’s Vienna campus, thanks to the German American Heritage Society.
Earn an MS in Environmental Management Online
Webster’s MS in Environmental Management is now offered online. The prerequisite for this timely graduate program is a bachelor’s degree.
Nursing Program Earns Reaccreditation
The Department of Nursing recently received formal notification from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) that its undergraduate and graduate programs have been reaccredited for eight years, the maximum reaccrediting period granted.
Advisory Board’s Sherman Silber Is Eads Award Winner
The College of Arts & Sciences salutes Sherman Silber, M.D., recipient of the Academy of Science of St. Louis’ 2008 James B. Eads Award. Silber is a renowned pioneer in microsurgery and infertility.
A&S Alumna Receives Fulbright Student Award
A&S alumna Tiffany Hacker has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Scholarship Award to study Buddhist mural painting in Laos. Tiffany graduated in 2003 with degrees in religious studies and international studies, as well as a certificate in international human rights. She credits a study abroad trip to Webster’s Hua Hin (Thailand) campus and Professors Joseph Stimpfl and Christopher Parr of the Department of Religious Studies for engendering her interest in Buddhist traditions.
Visiting Writer Series Flourishes
Writers have been reading their work through the Department of English’s Visiting Writing Series since 1986. That ’s the year Professor David Clewell, Director of Creative Writing, began the acclaimed program. “We are proud to have featured so many nationally known poets and fiction writers, including Pulitzer Prize winners, National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award winners, and a U.S. Poet Laureate,” said Clewell, “but we take just as much pride in showcasing writers in earlier stages of their publishing careers.” (View partial list here.) Scholarly Achievement Reception Held April 11
Research, presentations, and other scholarly achievements were showcased at the second annual Celebration of Scholarly Achievement, held April 11 in the Emerson Library Faculty Development Center. (See celebration booklet.) A highlight of the reception was Dean Wilson’s announcement of Jennifer Baumwoll as the winner of this year’s International Relations Thesis Prize.
4th Global Thinking Episode Is on HEC-TV, Also Online
The fourth episode of Arts & Sciences’ Global Thinking television series, on the Danforth Plant Science Center, is now showing at 8 pm Wednesdays and 5 pm Saturdays through May 31 on St. Louis’ HEC-TV. In addition, the Danforth Plant Science Center episode and the first three episodes–on the Missouri Botanical Garden, Monsanto, and the International Institute–are available online. The Global Thinking TV series highlights the internationalism of various St. Louis companies and institutions.
