Reception Honors Scholarly Achievement
The Celebration of Scholarly Achievement, held April 26 at the Webster Groves Campus’ Alumni House, gave St. Louis faculty a chance to see the extent to which College of Arts & Sciences professors contribute to their individual disciplines.
The reception also allowed attendees an opportunity to relax and catch up with colleagues before resuming their end-of-the-semester responsibilities.
Displays of books and articles, as well as a booklet listing scholarly achievement from Arts & Sciences professors around the world, showed the depth and breadth of faculty’s contributions. While they browsed and chatted, participants were entertained by classical guitarist Alyssa Santoyo, a Webster University student.
Dean David Carl Wilson gave brief remarks during the reception. He expressed his appreciation of faculty’s commitment to their fields, as indicated by their scholarly work. The dean also announced to those gathered two initiatives: the start of Webster University Press, with its first book (Vienna Revisited, by Richard Winter and Susan Winter Balk, with an introduction by Gregory Weeks, head of International Relations at the Vienna campus) coming out in Fall 2007; and a new annual prize for the best thesis by a graduate student in International Relations.
