Britt-Marie Schiller is Professor and Chair of the department. She teaches philosophy and psychoanalysis, epistemology, feminist theories, and history of philosophy. She is also a practicing psychoanalyst and an advanced candidate at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. Her research is focused in the intersection of philosophy, psychoanalysis, and gender--currently on articulating alternative conceptions of masculinity.

Don's main interest is American Pragmatism, especially in its connections to Continental Philosophy. He has published articles on the Pragmatists and Socrates, James and Hegel, Dewey and Derrida, and Rorty and Heidegger. Don's current research involves a book length study of Dewey's early Hegelian philosophy. Some recent courses include American Philosophy, William James, French Aesthetics, and Philosophy and the Irrational. Don recently received a Fulbright scholarship (in the Slovak Republic) for a project that compares American and Central European thought.

Kate Parsons is Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department and Director of Webster's Center for Ethics. Her interdisciplinary courses are offered in the Philosophy Department, as well as in the Center for Ethics, Women's Studies, and Environmental Studies programs. Her research interests currently include ethics of the family, feminist philosophies of the body, and theories of identity related to gender, race, and class. She is also interested in philosophies of the body that articulate and illuminate her experiences as a dancer.

Art Sandler is Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Human Rights Education Project as Webster University. His primary interests are politics and political thought, the history of politics and political thought, and human rights. In recent years, he has taught Social and Political Philosophy, Introduction to Human Rights, Current Problems in Human Rights, Theories of Human Rights, Human Rights and Film, Globalization and Human Rights, and a Senior Seminar on John Rawls.

Bruce Umbaugh writes, thinks, and teaches about computing and other technologies. He maintains the X-Ray Net mailing list and the weblog, A blog doesn't need a clever name, and administers the Arts and Sciences Web conferencing system. He also teaches critical thinking, epistemology, history of philosophy, and philosophy of science. Bruce is convinced that there are considerable educational and community-building possibilities for networked virtual environments, and regularly teaches philosophy classes online. His research focuses on virtual community and ethics for cyberspace. His book is On Berkeley, in the Wadsworth Philosophers Series. Bruce came to Webster in 1994.
