  • Wade C. Ferguson’s article “Carolinas-Virginia Salary Rises Outpace Inflation Once Again, but Downsizing Rears its Ugly Head: Results of the 2001 NAPM-CV Salary Survey” (with Hartley and Turner) was published in the January-March 2002 issue of Southern Purchaser. Ferguson is an adjunct faculty member at the Charleston Metro Campus in South Carolina.
     
  • Thomas M. Box, Ph.D., received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Academy of Educational Leadership on April 12, 2002 for his teaching at Pittsburg State University. Box also co-authored an article, “Paradigm Shift and Organizational Conflict: A Field Study,” which was published this year in the Academy of Strategic and Organizational Leadership Journal. Box serves as editor of the Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal and is an online adjunct professor of Business Strategy and Operations Management through Webster's World Classroom.
     
  • P.J. Ortmeier, Ph.D, is the author of two books, “Policing the Community: A Guide for Patrol Operations,” which came out in April, and “Security Management: An Introduction,” which is due out in October. Both books are published by Prentice Hall. Ortmeier is a part-time faculty member in Security Management at Webster's San Diego Center and a full-time coordinator of Administration of Justice Programs at Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif.
     
  • H. Keith Wade’s article, “Market-Based Higher Education,” was published in the April 2002 issue of Ideas On Liberty. Wade is Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer at Florida Cypress Gardens, located in Polk County, Fla. He is an MBA instructor at Webster’s Lakeland, Fla., Metropolitan Campus.
     
  • Mary Davis, Denver Campus, was recently the principal investigator for an 18-month research study funded by the National Academies of Science—Transportation Research Board (TRB). The research report, “Managing Transit’s Workforce in the New Millennium,” assesses the transit industry’s workforce needs and prospects in the coming decades. The report can be found on the TRB web site.

  • Larry Friederich, is serving this year as one of the 228 human resource practitioners nationwide on the Human Resources Policy and Practice Forum sponsored by the Bureau of National Affairs. There are only six HR professionals from the higher education industry on the panel. Friederich has been an adjunct faculty member at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois since l986 and is currently the Vice President for Human Resources and Organization Development at Southwestern Illinois College, where he has worked since l984.
     
  • Connie Fuller, adjunct professor, Human Resources Development and Management, at the Crystal Lake, Ill., metro campus, has co-authored “Bridging the Boomer-Xer Gap: Creating Authentic Teams for High Performance at Work.” The book addresses how to create high-performing teams that build on the values that each generation brings to the workplace. Fuller is certified as a Senior HR professional by the Society for Human Resource Management.
     
  • On Jan. 10, 2002, Hardy L. Merritt was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges. The award was for Merritt’s “many contributions to performance excellence in South Carolina government.” Merritt developed a comprehensive self-assessment program based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for use by state government agencies. Merritt is a management consultant employed by the South Carolina State Budget and Control Board. He teaches Applied Business Statistics at Webster's Columbia Metro and Fort Jackson, S.C. campuses.
     
  • Earl J. Motzer, adjunct professor at the Jeffersonville, Ind., campus and CEO of The James. B. Haggin Memorial in Harrodsburg, Ky., was recently appointed as the Kentucky Hospital Association’s representative to the new State Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Advisory Committee, and to the new Hospital Bio-Preparedness Planning Committee. Motzer continues to give speeches to elected leaders in the state on how to prepare their communities for weapons of mass destruction incidents.
     
  • Kenneth J. Heinz, had his article, “The Sunshine Law: Missouri’s Open Meetings and Records Act,” published in the April 2002 issue of Missouri Municipal Review. Heinz serves as general counsel for several St. Louis-area communities and also serves as counsel to the Planning & Zoning Commission of Town and Country, Mo. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Northwest Plaza campus in St. Louis, where he teaches Legal Issues in Telecommunications.

  • Robert Gray, adjunct faculty coordinator at the Kansas City campus, has just completed the textbook, “Healthcare Human Resource Management.” The book is being used by several universities in their human resource management courses. “Healthcare Human Resource Management” has been officially endorsed by The American College of Healthcare Executives and The Association of University Programs in Health Administration.
     
  • Narayanaswamy Nadig presented a paper entitled “African-American Spending Pattern with relation to Financial Stability” at the 9th Annual Conference of American Business and Behaviors Sciences in Las Vegas on Feb. 7, 2002. The paper is a case study on Richland County-Columbia, S.C. Nadig is an adjunct instructor at the Columbia, S.C., metro campus and an associate professor at Benedict College.
     
  • Sam Cooper, director of the Greenville, S.C., campus and Regional Academic Director for South Carolina, published a review of “Tuition Rising: Why College Costs So Much” by Ronald G. Ehrenberg in the January issue of The Economics of Education Review.
     
  • Steve Sawdon and his company, Pan American Bio Technologies, LLC, were honored with the Department of Commerce Export Achievement Award for exporting biological microbes for wastewater treatment to China. During the same program, Brad Buchholz, vice president of Eagle International and one of Sawdon's former international MA students, also received the Department of Commerce Export Achievement Award. The ceremony was part of the celebration of World Trade Week, begun by former President Reagan in 1982. Sawdon is an adjunct instructor at the Irvine, Calif., campus. (VIEW PHOTO LARGER)
     
  • Mayer Nudell, adjunct professor at the Bolling Air Force Base campus, was the keynote speaker at the National Training and Education Seminar of the Society of American Military Engineers, held on May 22 in Kansas City. Nudell, is a former U.S. diplomat and an acknowledged authority on terrorism, crisis management, travel security and related international political and national security affairs.
