Webster Signs New Agreement in China

Webster University has signed an agreement with China University of Electronic Science and Technology in Chengdu to offer a new Joint MBA Program, which would include 50 students the first year. The agreement was submitted to the Ministry of Education in Beijing for approval May 20. The Chinese government must approve all foreign educational programs.

"The agreement is a further reflection of Webster’s commitment to providing a high-caliber American education to Chinese business students," says Webster University President Richard S. Meyers. "We’re hopeful that the Chinese government will continue to put their faith in us to advance business education in the country in a way that only Webster can."

Webster currently has about 330 active students in China, all of whom are MBA candidates attending classes either in Shanghai or Shenzhen. Sixty of the Chinese students are spending the summer in St. Louis at the main Webster University campus. In addition to taking classes, the Chinese students are visiting corporations, such as MasterCard International, Graybar Electric and EDS, and attending guest lectures.

ClassatShenZhenWebster offers its Chinese MBA Program in Shanghai and Shen Zhen in partnership with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. “The Webster nine-week, weekend-only program is unique in China,” says Rick Foristel, director of Webster University Shanghai. “Many other programs bring professors to China for four days per course, and hold classes during that short period.”

Foristel says Webster is also currently working toward the launch of a new undergraduate program that will allow non-Chinese speaking students from all other Webster campuses to attend 16-week modules in Shanghai.
