Aurel Schubert, director of statistics for the Austrian National Bank, enlightened Webster University faculty, staff and students on the economic challenges and opportunities that a growing, unified Europe presents to the United States.
Schubert gave the Nov. 25 presentation as the University's E. Desmond Lee Visiting International Scholar in Global Awareness. Philanthropist Des Lee established the E. Desmond Lee Visiting International Lectureship in Global Awareness at Webster University in 2000 to help foster international understanding. As the Des Lee scholar, Schubert also gave presentations to the St. Louis extended business community and at Webster's new site in Winghaven with Midwest BankCentre. At the Austrian National Bank, Schubert has headed the Foreign Research Division and served as Assistant Head, Secretariat of the Board of Executives. He is a member of the Statistics Committee of the European System of Central Banks and also a member of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics of the European Union. Schubert earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of South Carolina in 1985 and has been an adjunct professor at Webster Universitys Vienna campus ever since.
