Webster University- Fayetteville team, David Cooke and Sara Russell, took first place honors in a worldwide business competition. Cooke and Russell received their $5,000 prize Thursday from Webster's Dean of the School of Business and Technology. Alumni and students from Webster's School of Business and Technology have been engaged in the competition to determine who is the most successful in managing and growing a business. What began as 46 teams from all over the world was narrowed down to six teams competing for $10,000 in prizes sponsored by World Wide Technology, Inc.

The Fayetteville team was led by Webster University faculty member Don King, Ph.D. Cooke and Russell were competing with five finalist teams, another one of which was from Fayetteville and included Michael Needham and Shabbir Kahn, who placed fifth in the worldwide competition. Other finalist teams were from Jacksonville, Fla., Orlando, Fla., Hua-Hin, Thailand and Vienna, Austria.

During the competition, teams compete to determine which executive management team can take their $100 million virtual company and make it into the biggest success. Components of the competition include strategy, research and development, marketing, production, finance and process management. Each team responds to challenges that require business decisions. The Capstone® Business Simulation software program being used is the leading online business management simulation.
