Webster University has the Webbies!

As a Webster University "junior associate", each year you are offered an exciting opportunity to have your work judged by professionals currently working in the advertising/marketing communications industry. Participation in the contest allows you to test your creative work against the other "associates". A victory earns respect and admiration from our "account executives" and future employers.

We encourage you to enter and compete with your best advertising/marketing communication work at this year's Webbies!

Every Webbies Award Show is remembered for many things -- exciting moments from the stage and beyond, inspirational acceptance speeches and the shining pride of the winners are only a few of the magical moments which will stay ingrained in memory for years to come.

VICKI: Hi. My name is Vicki and I work at the Grip.
ANGELA: And like, I'm Angela and I work at the Limitless.
(V): And we just hate those weird people who shop at the Avalon.
(A): The Avalon Un-der-ground. Whatever!
(V): Crazy store!
(A): For sure!
(V): Like those clothes are like totally out-dated.
(A): I know, like, if I wanted some old time, brand-less clothes, I'd like ask my mom for hers.
(V): Anyone who wears khakis without Ked's is like totally insane.
(A): Really! And those who don't match are like totally weird and NOT CUTE!

(Young female, soft spoken, conversational tone)

I'm 20 years old. I used to feel invincible. I mean, that's what being young is all about, isn't it? Feeling like nothing can touch you. And then my friend Peter died from AIDS. He wasn't ready to die. He was young. Like me...and you. What AIDS does is it breaks down your immune system and your body can't fight disease anymore. You just get weaker and weaker until your body gives up. Forever. Watching someone I loved die of AIDS left me feeling powerless. There was nothing I could do. I'd never felt that much pain. The surgeon general estimates that by the year 2000, every single one of us will know - or have known - someone with AIDS. That's an awful lot of people in an awful lot of pain. But I've realized, we may not be invincible, but we're not powerless either. We can fight AIDS if we just do two simple things: One, if you must use intravenous drugs, don't ever share a needle. And two, when you have sex, use a condom.

COPY: Ha, ha, ha. Very funny, right? Wrong. Very serious. Like AIDS. And very scary. And it should be. Even to you, even now. Now -- when all you can think about are your plans for the future. AIDS is killing more and more young people in the United States every year. AIDS doesn't discriminate when it comes to age. So no matter how young you are, it's time to learn the facts. Before it's too late. You can help stop the spread of AIDS by following two simple rules. One, if you use intravenous drugs, never share a needle with anyone. Not only The Webbies ...

The Webbies Awards are not the only contest where our "associates" can and did prove their creative powers.

In 1995, Webster University won the Gannett Billboard College Creative Contest for the second year in the row. Dave Meiser took first place for his idea for Circuit City. Third place went to Cheryl Smith and Tre Lohmeyer for their idea for Pepsi. Holly Willis and Fleur van Kleffens received an honorable mention for their idea for the American Orthodontic Association.

Dan Sandberg won first place in the first annual Gannett contest in 1994. Webster's "associates" also received 12 honorable mentions that year.



Each year, college students compete for top honors in the BMA's National Student Competition. The challenge? To create a comprehensive multimedia campaign that can be readily implemented by a real-world client.
