The Audio Production Students of AUDI 4800 Investigate
New Telefunken USA Ribbon Microphone -- The RM-5C
The Audio Production Students in AUDI 4800 (Audio Engineering) were among the first in the U.S. to audition and
review the new Telefunken USA RM-5C ribbon microphone. Listening to the microphone on voice, guitar,
tenor sax and congas,the class compared the RM-5C with a classic ribbon microphone, the Coles 4038.
The object of the excercise was not to declare a "winner". Rather it was to learn something about
microphone design and use. The RM-5C was well-received by the class. The microphones were made
available byAssociate Professor, Barry Hufker,who was first in the country to purchase this new model.

for the Studio A Control Room. All 15 students in the class spent time this semester evaluating the
Control Room's acoustics. The traps are Slot Absorbers designed to improve the room's bass response.
