Onward! › Words from the Dean
Dear Alumni,
The annual Webbies event is a true celebration of some of our students’ most extraordinary work. But after the lights go down, the curtain closes and the evening ends, I’m always left with a lingering question:
What benefit is creating such wonderful work if only we at Webster get to see it?
In an effort to expose more student work to industry professionals, we plan on tweaking the annual student recognition program this year. No longer will the “Webbies” be relegated to a one-night event.
Instead of investing money in a single evening of acknowledgement, we’ll celebrate our students’ accomplishments throughout the year by launching the Webbies Grant Program. The program will provide students with the opportunity to submit work to industry-specific competitions, contests and festivals around the world.
Here’s how the new Webbies will work:
Students create awesome work (this much is pretty much a given with the talent we have here). Faculty approve the work and authorize the use of Webbies grant money. The grants pay the entrance fees for students to enter their work in regional, national and international competitions.
Don’t worry, we’ll still through an end-of-the year party to celebrate all our program participants … we’ll just have to make room on the table for all the regional, national and international awards they’ll bring with them!
Sincerely,

Debra Carpenter Dean, School of Communications Webster University
