Dear Alumni,

Most people want the same thing when booking an airline flight — give me the quickest and most direct route possible. Why should gathering information about your career field be any different?

Fellow alumni willing to offer advice, impart industry knowledge and share valuable connections are all over the globe. SCAN wants to book you on a direct flight to contacting these people.



SCAN, since its inception, has been collecting contact information from School of Communications alumni willing to help up-and-coming professionals in their respective fields. We call them our GURUs, Guides for Undergraduates Reaching Up.

Well, it’s time we share what we’ve put together and for us to step out of the way. The published list of GURUs can be found here.



The list of distinguished grads is filled with people like:

John Schmitt (BA, Media Communications, 1986), a senior graphic preparator at the St. Louis Science Center;
Minhsan Vu (BA, Advertising and Marketing Communications, 2003), a senior account executive at JWV in Vietnam; and,
Julie Trang (BA, Broadcast Journalism, 2001), an evening news producer at WREG-TV in Memphis, Tenn.

These alumni are your resources, your sounding boards or your connections to your industry. It’s our hope this list will only continue to grow in the upcoming years, helping grads explore better opportunities throughout their careers.
