Just Landed Alumni › Crystal M. Ginn ’06 Interactive Digital Media
SCAN highlights School of Communications alumni who recently landed jobs in their field. Crystal M. Ginn (BA, Interactive Digital Media, 2006) works as production coordinator for Siegel & Gale in New York.

SCAN: How did you land your job?
Crystal M. Ginn: Craigslist! Sounds funny but, really, that’s how I landed this job. I had reached out to listings all over the Web and had forgotten about this one to be honest.
SCAN: When do you realize this was the career for you?
CMG: Career? Now that’s a big to word to use here. Ask me in about a year, I might have close to solid answer. Interactive media is where I want to be and that could lead me into one of many career paths frankly. I’m still into print design and in this case plastic, since I’m working on the design of American Express credit cards and the production of them worldwide. I hope to transition back into my passion for interactive by the end of this year.
SCAN: Any advice for those looking for a job?
CMG: Try out different jobs if you haven’t nailed a passion or interest yet. If you are just having trouble finding an opening — scout networking events. It comes down to who you know most of the times. It makes sense though, because then you are not just experience on paper — you are an excellent personal recommendation by someone.
SCAN: What’s the best way to prepare for an interview?
CMG: To have done your homework on the company and get some rest the day before so you are fresh and stressless. And to simply, just be yourself.
SCAN: What classes taught you the most about your chosen industry?
CMG: My capstone work on Snookr (which is an accumulation of my classes) and my experience with the awesome publication, The Ampersand.
SCAN: Best on-the-job experience so far?
CMG: Running a team of designers and production artists. It’s quite a responsibility and challenge, but I love it.

SCAN: Worst on-the-job experience so far?
CMG: Complimenting sarcastically my boss’s huge pimple on her face in front of someone, whom I thought was random, yet was our client. Ha.
SCAN: What Web site do you visit just to kill time?
CMG: NotCot.org, my Google Reader (that’s enough, really), Flickr, New York Art Beat
SCAN: Best way to fuel creativity?
CMG: Go on small trips/breaks. Escape routine. My Moleskine thrives with scribbles, doodles and refreshed goals and ideas.
SCAN: What’s on your desk right now?
CMG: A Tin-Tin miniature, Legos, Play-Doh, Post-its, my iPhone, paper, more paper, green tea and a muffin from this morning that needs to be tossed.
SCAN: Favorite fringe benefit of your job?
CMG: My data plan on my cell is reimbursed. May not sound fabulous to you but if you know me, I’m into mobile media, so I’m on that thing all the time.
SCAN: Is your current salary more or less than you expected to be making at this point?
CMG: It’s ok for now, about what I expected. Could be more. Will be more :-)
SCAN: What do you plan to do on your next paid vacation day?
CMG: Just came back from Germany, so the next trip is far from now: December. I will be going to India for a wedding and then stopping home, in Greece on the way back and maybe even Mallorca and Malta.
SCAN: Things you miss most about Webster?
CMG: On-campus life and nerding out with fellow classmates and professors in the SOC.
Editor’s Note: Since her interview with SCAN, Crystal has been offered and accepted the position as Interactive Producer with Siegel & Gale.
