Technology Purchases Keep SOC
at the Top of the Class

The holiday season may have come and gone, but for audio production students it seems the presents keep on coming.

Earlier this month the Media Center unveiled its latest purchase — a state-of-the-art Solid State Logic Duality board that senior Audio Production major Dan Shea called “absolutely incredible.”

The mixing console combines the latest technology to create an analog board for the digital age. It features new dual mic pre’s, slit channel path, comprehensive sound, constant visual feedback, multi-operator total recall and session management.

“It’s basically an analog board that can speak digitally,” said Cory King, an Audio Production senior. “There’s so much more we can actually do now. It’s definitely still Christmastime around here.”

Said Assistant Professor Gary Gottlieb: “It’s an incredible board. It’s the most versatile console available.”

And providing the best equipment available is just part of the mission of the School of Communications. With so many majors dependent upon the latest equipment and technology shifting from analog to digital, delivering the latest technology is nothing new to the SOC.

“We just keep running,” said Greg Little, Media Center director. “There’s always something.”

Little and his staff are constantly on the lookout for the latest equipment, taking requests for items such as cameras, microphones and film. “I have a very good staff,” Little said. “It’s a true collaborative effort.”

Yet Little credits Dean Debra Carpenter and a handful of other Webster administrators with making it all happen. “Debby’s always been so supportive of the faculty, her students, and all their technology needs,” Little said. “It’s a very exciting time.”
