Note
From The Dean
Dear Colleagues:
What you see
on your computer screen is a dream come true for me. Ever since I was
an adjunct faculty member for Media Communications 19 years ago, I've
wanted to see a lively format for sharing School news with ALL our faculty.
I commend Gary Ford, visiting assistant professor in Public Relations,
for making my dream a reality. Gary organized, designed, and wrote this
first edition of an electronic newsletter for the adjunct faculty of the
School of Communications. And who better to do this than a person who
has taught as an adjunct for us for many years. Over the years he and
I have often talked about how the adjuncts don't have first hand information
about what's going on in our energetic school. Thank you Gary for not
only highlighting the problem, but also for solving it!
As Fall '03 nears
completion, let me extend my thanks to all of you as well for your contributions
to the educational experiences of our School of Communications students.
Thank you and enjoy a safe and joyous holiday break.

Adds Faculty Office Space
To Crowded School of Communications
Growth
is a very good thing. The kind of growth the School of Communications
has seen in the past five years would be the envy of any business or institution.
But it comes with a price. Space shortages have caused growing pains.
Some welcome relief for those growing pains came at the beginning of the
fall semester as 11 full-time faculty and staff moved into a newly remodeled
Kirk House.

an assessment program is underway and we need input from adjunct faculty.

Teaching
in Thailand: One Adjunct’s Adventure
By Sally Howald, assistant professor, advertising
In the
spring of 2002, I disappeared from this side of the planet. I left a full
time job, son in college, house in Kirkwood and two cats. After more than
20 hours on an airplane, I arrived 10,000 miles away in Bangkok, Thailand.
The purpose of my great escape was to teach four classes in advertising
and marketing at Webster University in Thailand.
