› The Ampersand
The Ampersand is a full-color magazine that includes profiles, editorials, reviews and eclectic submissions from the student population. It is produced twice a year, completely by students.
The magazine humbly started in 2002, when a handful of students discovered a similar non-yearbook for Webster University from the 1970s. They were inspired by the artistic publication and sought to revive it.
The first edition of The Ampersand blended aspects of a yearbook, literary magazine, newspaper and coffee-table book into 76 black-and-white pages. The size of the publication has since shrunk, but its local and national reputation continues to grow.
In 2006, The Ampersand was awarded a Gold Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association as one of the six best student magazines in the country.
In 2005, the magazine garnered two first-place prizes, for cover and contents page/spread, at the National College Media Convention in Kansas City. It took third place in the overall “Best in Show” category for general excellence.
The Ampersand is published at the St. Louis home campus.
