The Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts includes the Department of Music, Department of Art, and the Conservatory of Theatre and Dance. Webster University has made a long lasting and significant commitment to the arts with contributions to the various disciplines through the achievements of our faculty and alumni. The Webster music faculty is comprised of outstanding professional practitioners in the composing, analysis, teaching, conducting, and performing of music. Our curricula offer real world knowledge to help you prepare for your career. Our applied faculty includes members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, recognized as one of the world’s great orchestras. A number of our faculty members also hold appointments with the Community Music School of Webster University, a great resource that provides music instruction for very young children through senior adults across our region. Our numerous ensembles will provide outstanding educational and enjoyable experiences to students from across the campus. The ensembles run the gamut from the Webster Symphony, the New Music Ensemble, the Opera Studio, three choral ensembles, the Big Band, the "Mini" Big Band, the Jazz Singers, and eight Jazz Combos. The Webster Wind Ensemble is acclaimed for its modular approach, providing experience in brass, chamber winds, saxophone, and percussion ensembles in addition to the full ensemble. Whether or not you major in music, these ensembles are available to you for participation as a Webster student. Auditions are held during the first week of classes for all ensembles. We are pleased to announce the launching of the Certificate in Music Entrepreneurship. This undergraduate six-course program is jointly sponsored by the Department of Music and the School of Business and Technology. The curriculum includes studies in traditional and alternative careers in music, contracts/negotiations, copyright and publishing, recording rights, small business, arts management, marketing/promotion, bookkeeping and tax laws for musicians. Guest lecturers from the St. Louis region and beyond are a regular feature of classroom activities. The program culminates in the preparation of a professional plan of action, whereby students work with professional entrepreneurs to lay out a plan for a successful career in music! Webster students are encouraged to avail themselves of several unique international study opportunities. Music majors take advantage of unique international study opportunities programs at Webster University-Vienna and Webster University-Thailand.
