Michael Ganio

Born one of seven children to parents Mario and Emily Ganio,  Michael got his first job working after school in the scene shop at the local Civic Arts Theatre in his hometown of Walnut Creek, California.

Following graduation from high school he attended The Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, California, where he met and worked with designers Jack Shouse, Bob Blackman,  Chris Idoine, Ralph Funicello, and Richard Hay.

His education continued at Webster University in Saint Louis and at Merrimac Community College where he studied art for two years.

In 1985 he relocated to New York City to begin graduate studies at New York University, where he  received his degree in 1988. That same year he applied for and was granted membership into the United Scenic Artists Union Local 829. He remained in New York for the next five years, working during the day as assistant to John Conklin, while pursuing his own design work at night.

He relocated to Oregon in 1993, and since then has been steadily engaged as a free-lance theatre scenic and costume designer.
