Tara McCarthy

B.A., Webster University, 1990; License of Cosmetology, LaPlante School of Hairstyling, St. Louis, MO, 1993; Masters in Arts Education, University of Illinois, Champagne/Urbana, 2004. At Webster since 2007.

Tara McCarthy is the head of the wig and makeup design program at Webster University and wig designer and stylist for The Repertory Theatre. Tara has designed over 20 shows for The Repertory Theatre since joining the company in 2007 and teaches all of the wig and makeup design classes for Webster University. Some of her credits with The Rep include Macbeth, The Fall of Heaven, You Can’t Take it With You, The 39 Steps, Amadeus, Ella, In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play, Sleuth, A Christmas Story and St. Joan. She has also styled wigs for The Fox Theatre, The Edison, St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, and The New Jewish Theatre.  Before relocating to St. Louis in 2007 she lived and worked in Chicago and focused entirely on work in theatre, film and television. Her experience there included work as a hair and makeup artist on over 12 feature films, numerous touring Broadway shows, and television. Some of her theatre credits include The Lion King, The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables, Joffrey Ballet’s The Nutcracker and Showboat. Some of her film and television credits include ER, Early Edition, The Road to Perdition, Ali, Save the Last Dance, Soul Survivors, The Visitors, Light it Up, Stir of Echoes, White Boys and The Negotiator. She also worked for over five years as the wig and hair stylist for Steppenwolf Theatre and while there designed the hair and wigs for the Tony Award winning “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
