Dr. Powell has been an adjunct instructor in the School of Education at Webster University since 2000-
2001. She primarily teaches Interpersonal Communication and Contemporary Educational Issues,
though she has taught Organizational Development and School Public Relations in the past. She earned
her Bachelor of Arts in English and journalism, and Master of education in English at Central Oklahoma
University. She completed her Doctor of Education at Oklahoma State University in education
administration with an emphasis on communication and public relations. Dr. Powell taught secondary
school and university classes before moving into district administration, first as the Director of
Communications and eventually becoming Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Support Services
in Duval County, Florida. She has presented at state and national school board, superintendents, and
other education-related conferences, as well as at teacher and principal workshops from coast to coast.
She was Regional Vice President of the National School Public Relations Association and served as
president and vice president in state chapters of NSPRA in both Oklahoma and Florida. Dr. Powell has
written numerous articles on trust, power, group development, equal opportunity, and school public
relations in several national and state publications.
