Jeffrey Hughes received his Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Iowa with a focus on Indian art. He has since changed his focus to contemporary global art, with a focus on art criticism. He teaches courses on Modern Art and Contemporary Art, Art Theory and Criticism, as well as the foundations course, Current Art. Every two years he takes students to Venice for a short-term study abroad course to study contemporary art at the Venice Biennale.

Professor Hughes also serves as Director of the Hunt Gallery, for which he curates about six shows each year. Significant highlights have included "Bring Us Your Lions," featuring contemporary Indian artists, in 2010, and "Contemporary Icons," featuring contemporary art from Bulgaria, in 2012.

His publications include exhibition catalogues for the accompanying Hunt Gallery shows. He also regularly publishes art reviews in publications such as Artpapers, Flash Art, and Review. Most recently he published "Desislava Unger: eigendeckt mit Träumen" in Um:Druck Zeitschift für Durckgraphik und visuelle Kultur in 2012.
